Impaktor App Reviews

Great promise but needs more

Right off the bat, this app is perfect for the price. However, it would be even better if it had bluetooth capability and iTunes file sharing. This will greatly improve my recording experience. Thank you, BeepStreet!

Finally, a real percussion instrument

I think that this has huge potential. To me, several of the reviews have missed the point. First of all, in my opinion, the virtue of this thing is precisely that it does NOT have an on-screen control widget; it uses the sound generated by drumming on a tabletop (or on real percussion instruments which you may already know how to play), an inherently analog and sensitive process which allows a natural access to dynamic range and timbral variation just not possible in tapping on a picture of a button on a glass screen. The app does, in fact, provide control of input sensitivity, and its possible to tailor that to eliminate almost all false triggers. (If youre trying to make this work in a subway station, youre out of luck. Buy any of the more traditional "drum machine" apps.) I do understand and sympathize with the frustration of not being able to use Bluetooth headsets, but thats a tricky one... A set of through-the-air Bluetooth speakers looks just the same to the app, however, but would produce horrendous howling feedback loops which would result in horrendous howling ticked-off reviews. Still, it might be better to give people the rope, with instructions for not hanging themselves. (By the way, I have no idea why Bluetooth doesnt work; Im totally guessing.) Finally, the claim that this is limited to only simple "beats" is... well, you need to get out more, and listen to the music which is made by hand drummers from all over the globe. An Indian classical tabla player just uses his hands and fingers to make some of the most complicated percussion music in the world, for instance. This app doesnt have the sensitivity of a piece of stretched animal skin, but its the first thing Ive seen which even comes close. I very much hope that Audiobus support is coming soon! Id also like to see more real-world instrument samples included. The "Ethnic" kit is a good start, with a lot of useful sounds, but Id love more Western orchestral percussion and trap set sounds, too. And finally, did I mention that Im holding my breath waiting for Audiobus support? Oh yeah, and also add Audiobus! This app and Auria are just dying to make music together!

Audiobus...

Rumor has it that audiobus is coming, which would push this app into a range of use. To add this into the effects slot while running a sequencer through it could be really cool. I really dig playing my tablas and other percussion through this app. Cant wait for this app to update!!!

Great Update

Adding audiobus support allows a great app to be even better. Use headphones if you want to avoid feedback issues while youre drumming. Still the most expressive drumming app, it translates mic input into drum sounds with a variety of ways to tweak the sound and adjust the volume of the input from the mic. Try using a contact mic for additional options if youre wanting to perform live music.

Some bugs on my iphone5

I just switched to 5 from 4 and although the OS is the same I find this app way more buggy. The clear track function doesnt work at all, though one trick u can do is change down to 4/16 and then back to the length u want and that will get rid of most stray notes. I tried clearing while record or play was on/off but it didnt seem to make a difference. I want to love this app because am an addictive tapper so it is a perfect concept for me...

Amazing!

The sounds put out by this app are amazing and the way you play it just lets you be that much more creative. Definitely worth the five bucks.

Doesnt seem to work

Not at all!

Luv it

Ffffffff kn amazing !!! Both my son and I are bustn out beats for our compositions . Also great for nee slapping a Rhythm before you do piano practice.

Friggin awesome!

Completely addictive and surprisingly useful in real world music making!

fantastic

does what it says!

Fantastic live drum instrument

Impaktor is one of my favorite iPad instruments! From the look and feel of the interface to the quality of sound output to the fast response from the developers...this is a fantastic value for the buck! I had an issue with the mic after the iOS 7 update. Access to the mic became disabled for Impaktor after the upgrade, but was easily remedied in the iPad settings. All is right in the world.

Incredible little app

Amazing app that is an incredibly easy way for drummers and non-drummers alike to create beats to be used in recordings or live performance. Audiobus and another app like Loopy HD makes this incredible as a live performance tool.

This is fantastic

I have to say this is one of the best app ideas Ive ever came across. While it definitely benefits from a quiet surrounding, that can be made up with one of those fancy contact pickups. But its EXTREMELY expressive. Hip hop to jazz to dance to pop, hell, I could probably even do some metal or rock with this thing. Its really really really well thought out. Thank you to the DEV.

~SLAMMIN STILL~

This was a revolution then and remains a jaw dropper to those I show who never seen! especially drummers and percussionists. Its so nice that the responsiveness is so tight that you can do perfect flams and soft roll fills AND THEY SOUND SWEET. and you can do these and many other drum techniques on a ton of built in sounds and can make nearly any sound you wanna beat on. Recently Ive discovered that just tapping on my bed mattress with a drum stick or embarrassingly a couple of no. 5 macramé needles fat ends! Sounds nutty but sitting there watching Notflix sometimes I just play flam para diddles or make beats finding the bassy part of the mattress and the more snare part so I brought impaktor into this (right into the middle...) and the bouncy mattress just was perfect for great snare rolls and drop stick dddoopdat doodat type 4th bar snare fills and rhythms. Fantastic and like nothing else. This was one of the first music apps I ever bought and I still love it very much. Thank you for bringing it life it is a masterpiece !

Fun

I like it. Its fun and I can come up with some happy accidents. Awesome idea

Closest to real

I play percussion and this is by far the closest I have come to an analog drumming experience. And immensely satisfying.

Like owning a Korg Wavedrum!

This app is brilliant! It is like owning a Korg Wavedrum for a fraction of the price. Synth engine is very deep! I use an iRig interface to plugin a contact mic (attached to a drum pad) into my iPhone for live performance. This eliminated the crowd noise substantially from triggering the apps synth engine because you bypass the iPhone mic. There are probably even better work arounds for live use. Just a fantastic app!

Man what an addictive app!

I have spent many hours creating patches on this app, and I love the possibilities this app brings. Audiobus is there to take your playing to other apps. This app os simple and brilliant!

Works ok

Interesting, but just a toy -

Amazing

This app is a beast. I am a drummer and i found out that you could connect an electronic pad via irig and play without having sound interference. The options for shaping your sounds are immensely vast!!!!!
